On January 12, 2023, St. Louis Public School, in partnership with the Metis Nation of Saskatchewan, hosted a Michif New Years celebration. Our gym was full as we enjoyed an evening of traditional food and entertainment. Fiddle Memories provided music while we visited and ate, and the highlight was when our PreK/K students sang to us in Michif and demonstrated the Rabbit Dance they have been practicing. We would like to thank our Elders, Sophie McDougall, Doris McDougall, Sonny Vandale, and Phyllis Vermette for attending as well as the many dignitaries who spoke to us. These include MNS President Glen McCallum, WR2 Director Sherry McLennan, Metis Local #28 President Lucille Tetarenko, Christine Tienkamp of the River Women Collective, and SRPSD Director Robert Bratvold. We would also like to acknowledge the support of MNS in making this event possible.
