March 16, 2020

Dear Families,

As you likely have heard, the Government of Saskatchewan has just announced that due to COVID-19, classes in pre-kindergarten to Grade 12 will be suspended indefinitely, starting Friday, March 20, 2020.  For the period of March 16th to March 19th, pre-kindergarten to Grade 12 classes will wind down. This means that parents who are able to keep children home should do so immediately, with no absence or grade impacts. Parents with limited childcare options have a window to plan for class suspensions.

The news release is available here: https://www.saskatchewan.ca/government/news-and-media/2020/march/16/class-suspensions.

In SRPSD, we have created plans in preparation for this announcement, but we must await further direction from the Ministry of Education about their policy and expectations for student learning impacts, before we finalize and implement our plans.  When we learn more about the details of learning outcome achievement, grades, credits, graduation, etc. we will share them with students, families and staff.  Our staff will be extra-busy planning and making the arrangements, so thank you for your patience as you await further details about the impacts of this announcement.

Please know that the things you can do to prevent the spread of COVID-19 are still very important (hand washing and health hygiene, social distancing, travel related isolation).  You can find details at www.saskatchewan.ca/coronavirus  to help keep your family healthy and respond if someone becomes ill.

Thank you for your support as we move further through these challenges together.  We will keep families updated on any further details related to the suspension of classes.

Yours in Education,

Barry Hollick, Board Chair   and    Robert Bratvold, Director of Education
