Christopher Lake Public School Proud Announcement

One of our own, Quinn Smith-Windsor has recently received a scholarship to travel to Kenya.  Her purpose in Kenya will be to assist local people in learning how to garden, thus providing a sustainable food source in times of need.  Her times of travel will be August 4th to August 17th, 2016.

Quinn has been a long time participant with one of SRPSD partners, Free the Children.  Her first major undertaking was back in 2010 after the major earthquake hit Haiti.  Her concerns were for the children that may have been left without assistance and the wheelchairs that were destroyed or now needed due to injury.  Her goal was to raise enough money to purchase 7 wheelchairs.  Her efforts allowed people in Haiti to purchase 17 wheelchairs.  Quinn has also assisted a community called Kipsongal, Kenya.  Residents of Kipsongal needed to walk 15 km to get clean water to be used for cooking and drinking.  To aid in her efforts, she wrote a song called 80 000 steps and she walked 80 000 steps in her walker as part of her fundraiser to purchase wells (it took almost a full year).  You can hear her song at this site:  https://youtu.be/vALkzMo8VlM    Quinn wants to shout out a huge thank you to Potash Corp and Free the Children for allowing her this opportunity. All of us at Christopher Lake Public School are excited and happy for Quinn.  We know she will represent our school and community with pride.  We can’t wait to hear about her time in Kenya.

Thank you to Principal Roy Feschuk for submitting this special story.
