March 9, 2020

Dear Families,

Last week, the division informed families about the potential for teacher job action.  We have now received official notice that the Saskatchewan Teachers Federation (STF) will be restricting teacher services beginning March 12, 2020 and until further notice.  Here is the link to the information that the STF has made public: https://www.stf.sk.ca/teaching-saskatchewan/collective-bargaining/sanctions

This job action will impact schools in several ways and SRPSD will be adjusting school operations accordingly.  Specifically, his adjustment means:

  • Extra-curricular activities that require teacher supervision outside the school day will be cancelled starting Thursday March 12, 2020 and until further notice.
  • Parent-Teacher Interviews will proceed as scheduled.
  • School schedules of events, activities, classes, recesses, and noon-hours will continue as usual.
  • School supervision for the time immediately before and after school will continue mostly as usual, but some schools may have necessary changes communicated by the Principal

Schools and the division have plans in place to manage the anticipated implications of this job action as well as a mechanism to address unexpected outcomes.  We will continue to keep the safety of your child our priority and the education of each learner our focus.  Communication will be essential so please watch for communication from your school and the division.  As I mentioned last week, I apologize in advance for duplicate messages.  Mass communication does not reach all our families in the same way, but we make our best efforts to ensure the messages are received by all.

Thank you for your support as we move forward in this potentially challenging period.  Our staff work hard to do great things for students and families each day and we work hard to build relationships among staff and families.  We will continue to build those strong relationships despite any challenges that come our way.  We look forward to working with you and providing the best education possible for your child.  If you have questions that are not answered by the communication we send, please contact your school principal about school operations.

Yours in Education,

Robert Bratvold

Director of Education
