The Cardboard Boat Race has become an extremely popular event within the past few years and host Carlton Comprehensive Public High School provide schools across the SRPSD with the chance to participate!
Students in grades 7-9 from participating schools have the opportunity to test their building and problem solving skills in a team setting where the challenge is to design, construct and race a cardboard boat down a swimming pool.
They must adhere to strict rules and regulations and only utilize materials supplied. This fun, interactive “hands-on” activity can be linked to classroom curriculum concepts, such as buoyancy, water displacement and research/design.
In the 2016 school year, 24 teams participated in the cardboard boat race challenge and the photos prove learning can be fun!
