Saskatchewan Rivers Public School Division celebrates International Literacy Day on September 8, 2019. In our schools’ commitment to student achievement, viewable here, we believe that Literacy is the focus that connects all our good work together. Literacy begins with the fundamental acquisition of skills in reading, writing, listening, speaking, viewing, representing, and mathematics. It becomes the ability of all students to think, apply, and communicate effectively in all subject and program areas in a variety of ways and for a variety of purposes.
The Minister of Education, Gordon Wyant, knows the importance of literacy. He has indicated, “Literacy is the foundation of learning and success in schools.” Saskatchewan Rivers Public School Division is pleased to be a partner in hosting regional libraries in some of our schools, supporting library partnerships in our other schools and being an ally of the Saskatchewan Literacy Network as well. We do great work to promote literacy in our classrooms, but the strength of family and community partnerships multiplies the results of those efforts.
SRPSD is pleased to join the Government of Saskatchewan, our local partners, and the world in celebrating International Literacy Day. Take a minute and celebrate the day by reading to a child or arranging to volunteer at a school or other literacy center. Happy Literacy Day!
