Emily Zbaraschuk, a grade 8 Meath Park Public School student, submitted a poem that she wrote for the Canada Day Challenge. The contest was open to young Canadians from 8 to 18 years of age across Canada to submit their best, most dynamic drawings, photos or pieces of creative writing to celebrate Canada’s 150 years of Confederation. Emily describes her writing as “a poem that celebrates the objects, places, people, and ideas that have made Canada great and will continue to make Canada great. I believe our future will be built on what we come from, which is shown in my poem.”
Emily will receive an all-expenses paid trip for two to Ottawa to celebrate Canada Day 2017 and the 150th celebrations on Parliament Hill: she will meet some of Canada’s most inspiring people, tour museums, galleries, the iconic Parliament Buildings and be part of a special summer exhibit at the Canadian Museum of History. Emily will also get a VIP experience to the amazing Canada 150 celebrations! Additionally, she will receive an iPad from the National Film Board of Canada (NFB) and will have the opportunity to work with a team of experts from the NFB to produce her own short film.
