SRPSD  grade one/two teacher Ms. Loehndorf’s classroom recently participated in a variety of Fun Friday activities at West Central Public School.  These activities are designed to reinforce early literacy skills, such as sight words, phonics, word families, blending, segmenting, phoneme manipulation, nonsense words, and vowels.  The EST, Ms. Miller, and Ms. Loehndorf co-teach in order to provide an intricate learning experience for all students.

Throughout the school year, Ms. Loehndorf has been developing hands-on literacy games to meet the needs of her diverse students. The students’ reading levels range from DRA A to 30. These games also provide sensory experiences, fine motor practice, and support speech and language skills.  They also compliment all reading interventions within the classroom.

Mrs. Wilkinson’s grade five/six students support the grade one/two students’ learning and help guide them through each activity.  The grade five/six students, who have been trained in the “Take the Lead” initiative, are able to practice their leadership skills in this capacity.

None of this would be possible without the support of our principal, Iain MacDougall!
