| Overview:
Transcription skills play a critical role in supporting students’ overall writing development. When students struggle with handwriting or spelling, much of their mental energy is spent forming letters and recalling how to write words, leaving fewer cognitive resources available for organizing ideas, planning, and composing meaningful text. Strengthening transcription skills through explicit instruction helps students write more fluently and efficiently, allowing them to focus on higher-level thinking and communication. In this workshop, participants will learn about the importance of transcription instruction and explore practical ways to incorporate the LIFTER tool into classroom practice. Through explicit instruction in letter identification and formation, LIFTER helps students strengthen transcription skills that support reading, writing, and written expression.
