This workshop is to equip educators with the knowledge, skills, and sensitivity required to create a safe, supportive, and healing educational environment for all students, particularly those who have experienced trauma.

Learning Intentions:

• Understanding Trauma – Educate teachers about the various forms of trauma, its prevalence, and its potential impact on students’ cognitive, emotional, and behavioral functioning. Acknowledge that trauma-informed practices have the potential to break cycles of trauma and adversity, ultimately improving students’ mental health, academic achievement, and overall life outcomes.Top of Form

• Provide teachers with strategies to establish and maintain safe, inclusive, and predictable classroom environments that minimize triggers and create a sense of physical and emotional safety for all students.

• Help teachers integrate trauma-sensitive approaches that promote emotional regulation, coping skills, and resilience among students, empowering them to manage the effects of trauma.

• Promote teacher self-care and self-awareness, recognizing that supporting traumatized students can be emotionally demanding. Provide strategies to prevent burnout and secondary trauma among educators.

Success Criteria:

Educators feel empowered to create a nurturing and healing educational environment that recognizes and responds to the unique needs of students who have experienced trauma.
