This beautiful quilt panel was sewn by our Grade 1/2 Classroom teacher Mrs. Heather Hladun. We will be hanging this in foyer of our school. As we gathered for our Day of Truth and Reconciliation Assembly, Mrs. Hladun’s class walked through the halls carrying it for all to see. It is a true symbol of reconciliation as we move into the future with the Educational Calls to Action recommended from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.

The Quilt panel is called The Journey Home created by Karen Erickson

“In light of the recent traumatic events that have unfolded at former Residential Schools across Canada, Karen Erickson created “Every Child Matter” out of reverence to those grieving. This painting depicts two siblings who were finally set free after being grimly discovered at a Residential School. The children who are shown holding hands were torn apart from each other, but now reunited as they make their way back home. Karen included beautiful imagery such as a moon and feathers to represent the First Nations, Inuit and Metis people joining together to guide the two siblings.” 100% of the net proceeds from the sales of this quilt panel will be donated to the Indian Residential School Survivors Society and the Orange Shirt Society.

Welcome Back! https://www.srsd119.ca/welcome-back-5/ Tue, 06 Sep 2022 14:32:15 +0000 https://www.srsd119.ca/?p=24343 ]]> Welcome Back!

Welcome students and staff to the 2022-2023 school year!

September 1, 2022, is an exciting day for many students who return to school to experience everything Saskatchewan Rivers Public School Division has to offer. Students will meet their teacher, maybe for the first time, and they will see old friends and meet new ones. Some students will also feel nervous or unsettled, but we will welcome and support them in the school year ahead.

The Government of Saskatchewan has also officially proclaimed September 1, 2022, as “Provincial Students’ Day.” This day has always been focused on helping to ensure safety for students, families and communities. Let’s all remember the importance of school zone safety! SRPSD continues to make health and safety a priority for all our staff and students. We encourage all students, staff and families to continue to protect their health by washing hands (or using sanitizer) regularly, staying home when not feeling well and masking as appropriate. Schools and school division facilities will not require mask wearing, but will be mask-friendly places that support those who choose to wear masks.

We are focused on rebuilding, renewing and rejuvenating! This is going to be another great year in our Division, and we are so proud of our students, families and staff who make SRPSD wonderful. Have great year!

RIVERSIDE PUBLIC SCHOOL MISS THEIR STUDENTS AND COMMUNITY https://www.srsd119.ca/riverside-public-school-miss-their-students-and-community/ Thu, 04 Jun 2020 14:37:20 +0000 https://www.srsd119.ca/?p=17484 ]]> Since the suspension of classes in March, our Riverside staff greatly misses seeing our students and their families.

On Friday, May 8, 2020, rain or shine (or apparently snow) we wanted to have a “We Miss You” parade through our attendance area to see our students and families, even if it had to be from a distance. We were touched by the enthusiasm and creativity of the students and families who braved the weather to show us their smiling faces and to cheer us on.

We continue to hold you all in our hearts and minds until we can meet again in person. Our wish is that all our students and their families stay safe and hopeful during this challenging time.

A huge thank you to Constable Dumont for leading our parade, and to our School Social Worker Laura McDonald & School Mentor Matt Pelerine for figuring out our parade route.

Until we see each other again…take good care of yourself and your loved ones!

Kassia Miller, teacher with Vincent Massey Public School, engaged students in an ELA and PAA combined assignment. The students were asked to find a recipe that they would cook for their family. They would then type it out in the google documents or create slides. They were asked, with the help of a family member, to be safe and collect ingredients while reminding them of social distancing and hand washing. Once all ingredients were acquired, they would create a meal on their own or with support of a family member. Ms. Miller asked if they would take pictures and/or videos of themselves and send them to her. Ms. Miller had the students prepare the recipe and parents verified their work. Ms. Miller and her students kept in touch using google meets twice a week to help her students stay interested. This was by far the most motivating assignment and the students who took part were excited to send in their assignment. That in itself was success!

SRPSD and the Saskatchewan Government Celebrates Early Childhood Education https://www.srsd119.ca/srpsd-and-the-saskatchewan-government-celebrates-early-childhood-education-2/ Thu, 14 May 2020 14:23:47 +0000 https://www.srsd119.ca/?p=17203 ]]> Our community is becoming more aware that children begin learning right from birth, and it is very important that parents and early childhood educators are providing early learning that supports positive child development. We know that parents are a child’s first and most influential teachers, but many children are also supported in their development by other caregivers, including childcare educators. As part of this, the month of May has been proclaimed Early Childhood Education Month, and the government has specifically proclaimed May 13th Early Childhood Educator Appreciation Day.

To supplement the efforts of our early childhood educators, Play. Learn. Grow. Together! was developed as a public education program which provides parents and guardians of newborns to Kindergarten-aged children with easy to use tips and information. The webpage and family-friendly videos can be found at www.saskatchewan.ca/residents/education-and-learning/prek-12-education-early-learning-and-schools/early-years-learning. This is a useful online learning resource to help families with at-home learning opportunities for their children during the pandemic

“In these unprecedented times, we all can recognize how important child care support is for many families who want to pursue career and education opportunities or work to provide for their families,” Deputy Premier and Education Minister Gordon Wyant said. “On behalf of the Government of Saskatchewan, I want to thank Early Childhood Educators for continuing to make a tremendous difference in the lives of families and ensuring children are safe and well cared for.”

Saskatchewan Rivers Public School Division celebrates the important work that Early Childhood Educators do for our children and our community. Let’s celebrate May 13th with a salute to an Early Years Educator.
