SUMMARY:Transcription (handwriting) CLIFTER-Evening Session
DESCRIPTION:Transcription (handwriting) \nCLIFTER\n  Approved by: \nJennifer Hingley\, Superintendent of Schools\n\n\nAttendance: \n   Expected \nX Invitational \n \nSub Covered by: \n Division \nX Decentralized \n \nLunch: \nX On your own \n Provided \n \n\n\nWho: Dates: \nTime: \nLocation: \nFacilitator(s): \nBring: \n \nGrades 3-8 Teachers \nThursday\, May 28\, 2026 \n4:30-7:30 pm \nEd. Centre – Seminar East \nMichelle Blais-Court & Kristin Bates \nLaptop\n\n\nOverview: \nTranscription skills play a critical role in supporting students’ overall writing development. When students struggle with handwriting or spelling\, much of their mental energy is spent forming letters and recalling how to write words\, leaving fewer cognitive resources available for organizing ideas\, planning\, and composing meaningful text. Strengthening transcription skills through explicit instruction helps students write more fluently and efficiently\, allowing them to focus on higher-level thinking and communication. \nCLIFTER (Cursive Letter Identification and Formation for Transcription and Early Reading) is a free instructional tool designed to support cursive handwriting and spelling development. Through explicit instruction in cursive letter and word formation\, CLIFTER helps students strengthen transcription skills that support reading and written expression. \nThis PD falls under the LOU Re: Compensation for School Division Operated Voluntary Professional Development Outside of School Hours During the School Division Calendar year \n \n\n\nFor workshop information contact:    \nmblais@srsd119.ca or kbates@srsd119.ca or phone 764-1571 \nDeadline for Registration: Two days before each workshop. \nRegistration will only be accepted through online registration \n  \nClick Here To Register \nWorkshop Name: Transcription (Handwriting) CLIFTER

DESCRIPTION:  \nDedicating Time \n(Visual Arts Session)\n              Approved by: \n  \n  \n Jennifer Hingley Superintendent of Schools\n\n\nAttendance: \n☐Expected \n☒Invitation \nNotes:\nSub Covered by: \nPLC Day – No sub required \n  Mileage Covered by Division\nLunch: \n☒On your own \n☐Provided \n \n\n\nDate: August 28\, 2026 \nTime: 1:00 – 3:30 p.m. \nLocation: Carlton (b204) \nFacilitator: Melanie Mirasty \nBring: A yoga mat to sit on\n  \nIntended Audience: High School Visual Arts Teachers \n  \n  \n \n\n\nDedicating Time is a simple arts-based professional development session that combines creativity\, reflection\, and mindfulness. Participants will experience a three-step process that can easily be adapted for classroom use. \nStep 1: Visual Arts Activity \nParticipants will create a simple mixed-media canvas. Using white paint and one additional colour\, they will paint a sky background and add a black power line or tree branch. Small stones will be used to create birds\, which will later represent people or communities that have influenced and supported them. \nStep 2: Sharing Circle (Sharing who their birds are dedicated to) \nOnce the artwork is complete\, participants will take part in a sharing circle and reflect on the people\, relationships\, teachings\, or communities represented by the birds on their canvas. This models a classroom strategy for building connection\, gratitude\, and belonging. \nStep 3: Loving-Kindness Meditation \nThe session will conclude with a guided Loving-Kindness Meditation\, where participants will extend wishes of health\, happiness\, peace\, and well-being to themselves\, their loved ones\, and their communities. \nLearning Outcomes \nParticipants will: \n\nExperience a simple visual arts project that encourages reflection and storytelling.\nLearn how to facilitate a dedication and sharing-circle activity in the classroom.\nExplore a mindfulness practice that promotes gratitude\, compassion\, and community connection.\n\n \n\n\nDeadline for Registration: August 26 – midnight \nMaximum Participants: 25 \nRegister for: Dedicating Time-08-28-2026 \nFor workshop information contact: \nStacey Monette 764-1571\nClick Here To Register \n  \nResources and snacks are based on registration numbers\, you MUST register with the link above.\n\n\n  \nComplete “Request for Leave” Form: \nCurriculum (CURR)
