What is a Learning Improvement Plan?
The Learning Improvement Plan (LIP) is a school-level planning document that follows the format of the division Continuous Improvement Plan. The LIP is an important component of the Continuous Improvement Framework and has been designed as a support for schools in their strategic planning for improvement. The goals in the LIP should align with the division CIP and provincial priorities.
In this school division, the Learning Improvement Plans contain the following components:
- The School Community Council reports on its planned activities for the upcoming school year and its accomplishments of the previous year. As well the SCC will outline the ways it is supporting the school’s SMART goal.
- A brief description of Saskatchewan’s Core Curriculum.
- An outline of the innovative learning programs at the school that enhance Core Curriculum. As well the school’s extra-curricular and fine arts programs are described.
- The supports for learning offered in the school by school staff or by agency partners are described. For example, some high schools have addiction workers from the regional health authority and all schools are served by Public Health Nurses.
- A brief description of the Continuous Improvement Framework
- The school’s SMART goal is described in detail. As well, student assessment data along with other relevant information is presented to indicate the extent to which the previous year’s SMART goal was achieved. This is perhaps the most important section of the School Profile for it focuses on improving student learning outcomes.
